The travel privilege with an ID card is granted only to citizens of Azerbaijan; Kazakhstan is not within this scope. The “you can travel with an ID card” information circulating online usually belongs to the opposite direction, i.e. Turkish citizens travelling to Kazakhstan. Still, the visa-free 90 days is only a right of short visit; a residence permit or work permit is required for working or long-term living. The Kazakh Community in Türkiye
Citizens of Kazakhstan are one of the most populous foreign groups holding a residence permit in Türkiye, and their number is on the rise. The closeness of language and culture — a shared Turkic-world heritage and membership in the Organization of Turkic States — eases integration and supports settling for both work and investment purposes.
This large presence has a practical consequence of its own: some neighbourhoods heavily favoured by Kazakh citizens can, over time, enter the list of neighbourhoods closed to residence registration because of foreign-population density. In other words, while the size of the community strengthens the sense of belonging, that very popularity requires extra care when choosing a home — the current list must be checked before settling on an address.
While this closeness is an advantage, the rules of the processes are the same for all foreigners: the visa-free stay length, the residence threshold, the work permit application and citizenship conditions must be followed carefully. Closeness is not a reason to skip the rules.
