An extension has an application window: it opens before the permit expires and closes when it does. Exactly when the window opens depends on the type of your permit and your file's history — so instead of guessing a date, we calculate it from your file. Acting early is an advantage in every scenario.
Once the permit has expired, the process is no longer an extension; reapplication comes onto the table, and the residence right tied to the permit ends as well. This outcome is heavy in both time and cost. Options narrow but don't close entirely — the situation needs to be assessed urgently.
No. A work permit is tied to the employer and the workplace; a new application is opened for the new employer. What's commonly called a "transfer" is therefore not an extension. Detail: Employer Change.
The document list is not fixed. It's shaped by what has changed since the previous application, the type of permit, and the situation on the employer's side — a small update is enough for some files, while others are built from scratch. That's why the list is drawn up specifically for your file rather than memorised in advance.
For complete files, the Ministry's assessment generally falls within 30–90 days. When missing documents are requested, the clock effectively pauses until they are completed. What matters most is how early and how completely the application was filed.
As long as the work permit is valid, it stands in for a residence permit; when the permit ends, the residence right tied to it falls as well.
