This page is for people discussing an initial application or extension. If your situation is different, go to the right page.

Starting Situation

Which stage is your application at?

An initial application and an extension are assessed differently — in both cases the first step is the same initial consultation.

In both cases the application is carried out in your name, by power of attorney.

Why grounds matter

The short-term permit is not a single template — the law recognizes several grounds, and the assessment follows the grounds. An application filed on the wrong grounds can end in rejection even for someone who was actually eligible.

We determine together which grounds fit you during the initial consultation — the file is built from there.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

The questions on your mind

What is a short-term residence permit — is it the same as "tourist residence"?

Yes — the permit commonly known as "tourist residence" is, under the law, the short-term residence permit, and it is not a single template.

  • The grounds systemThe law recognizes several grounds (property ownership, a Turkish-language course/TÖMER, scientific research, a business meeting, commercial ties, medical treatment, and others); the application rests on one of these. Higher-education study is not grounds for short-term residence — student residence permit is a separate type.
  • An important shiftThe assessment of a purely "tourism-purpose stay" grounds has tightened noticeably in recent years — which is why choosing the right grounds is the most critical step in the file.

How long is it granted for?

Under the law, a short-term residence permit can be issued for up to two years at a time; in practice, the duration granted depends on the grounds and the file.

  • The duration in practiceTwo years is an upper limit, not an automatic right — in practice most files are issued a shorter period. What determines the duration is the nature of the grounds and the strength of the file.
  • ExtensionThe extension application is filed before expiry; whether the grounds are still valid is reassessed.
  • The long termYears of uninterrupted residence count toward long-term status (8 years) and citizenship (5 years) — we plan your short-term status together with these goals.

Which documents are required?

The core items are valid health insurance, address/accommodation, and grounds-specific documents; the full list varies by grounds.

  • Why we don't give a fixed listRequirements differ by nationality and grounds; a file prepared from the wrong list is the most common cause of rejection. Your own list is drawn up during the initial consultation.

Are tourism-purpose applications really being rejected?

The assessment of purely tourism-grounds applications has tightened noticeably in recent years, and the chance of rejection in practice has increased — but that doesn't mean the door to short-term residence has closed.

  • Reading it correctlyMost applicants' situations can actually be argued more strongly under different grounds; a key part of our work is making that identification.
  • An honest frameworkNo grounds come with a guaranteed outcome — the decision is the state's to make. What we offer is the right setup and complete follow-up, built on 22 years of file practice.

My visa/visa exemption is about to expire — can I still apply?

The rule is that the application must be filed before your legal stay period expires; overstaying leads to both fines and a harder application.

  • TimingDon't leave it to the last days — the appointment and document preparation take time. If your timing is tight, let's talk right away.

Who files the application, and how long does the process take?

The application is filed in your name, by us, through power of attorney; what determines the timeline is how complete the file is.

  • PreparationIdentifying the grounds and gathering documents takes about 3–7 days; the biggest time loss comes from wrong or missing documents.
  • AssessmentThe Provincial Migration Directorate's assessment varies by file and by how busy the period is; a request for missing documents extends the timeline.

How much does it cost?

There are two separate items: the official state fee and card cost paid to the government, and the consultancy fee.

  • The official sideThe fee and card cost are updated every year and paid to the government; they are not included in the consultancy fee.
  • The consultancy feeIt's set based on the scope of your file and shared clearly at the initial consultation.

What happens if my application is rejected?

Depending on the reason for rejection, we assess an appeal or reapplying under different grounds.

  • Analyzing the reasonRejection most often comes from the choice of grounds or a missing document; which one it was can be read from the file.
  • Related serviceFor appeal processes, see our objection and appeal page.
